Fly becomes a rail fan

Being now without wheels, and a bit over flying for the moment, taking to the tracks proved very satisfying. Canada's Via Rail ran like clockwork. Systems were all totally fly-proof. Online printout converted to tickets, baggage despatched with the aid of 'red caps' (porters), guides positioned along the way to shepherd passengers on board.
Five hours from Toronto to Montreal, little wait, three hours on to Quebec.  Not even tempted to read, the movie-through-the-window was sufficient.  Flat country for a while, with the lake on the right and farmland on the left.  Apples, corn, legumes.  Later on some contented looking dairy cows. Little townships with quaint timber houses and well kept lawns and gardens. Some wooded sections - how many greens make a forest.
At some point, the train passed an invisible line, after which the public announcements, instead of being first in English, then in French, were presented in reverse order.
