Day 10 Sunday 11th August Seattle
The Pike Street market bustles in the summer. Full of flowers, fruit and veg, and of course
the fish market. Managed to get a brief
video of a fish catch! (Only I have just looked closely at the video and it is
not a fish he caught at all. But that’s
the idea. And they all chant all the
time, like sailors hauling on ropes)
Buskers everywhere – the piano on wheels still on the corner
(it was there in 2008), and the guitar player who concurrently whirls a hoop around his waist and plays a
mouth organ, periodically tossing the guitar into the air to do several turns. And the Sailor Sisters – singing in very
close harmony, very well.
Later, Bede’s gang had a game of volleyball in Volunteer
Park, Capitol Hill – a beautiful lush place amidst very classy homes. People everywhere enjoying the day , the
view, the summer. “Mamma Jordan” was coopted to make up numbers in the game,
but upon discovering that Mamma could not manage to serve the ball over the
net, it was decided that three Jordans on the field was one too many. Mamma sat out and barracked.
Poquito’s Mexican Restaurant warned us at the door not to
bring our guns in to dine; and even I
was asked to show ID when I ordered alcohol.
A margarita which did not taste at all like the ones served at
Papardellos at home, and which I passed on to Brian to drink. Reverted to my Sauv Blanc.
I was introduced to Game of Thrones. No idea what was going on, but there is lots
to look at in costumes and settings, which I quite enjoyed. The little boy who learned to play the drums
in Love Actually is in it.
Sophie found her Seventh Heaven - a delightful vintage shop called Pretty Parlor; and managed to find one or two things to buy.
